Naming conventions
For Project Folders
Data nodes are organised in folders (see left column on the pictures on the right). Each folder starts with a letter of the alphabet. Folders that contain data nodes that depend on data nodes in another folder should have a higher letter of the alphabet than the folder they depend on. Since folders are shown in alphabetic order, data nodes in bottom folders depend on data nodes in top folders.
For Data Nodes
Naming conventions for data nodes make it easier to work with dependencies between data nodes. The convention is that the name starts with a letter followed by a number where
- the letter equals the starting letter of the project folder containing the data node, and
- either the number of the letter is higher than the letter or number of the data node the data node is based on.
For Projects
Naming conventions for projects mitigate the risk to start to develop a project from the wrong version, to have to sort out versions, or to accidentally destroy a project. Also, they ease work if the naming takes place in a way that facilitates sorting.
Projects that build upon each other (e.g. STEP 01 Import, Step 02 Calculation, …) should use the following naming convention
- STEP # Name
- Date YYMMDD
- Versions number
- Initials of authors
- Optional Remarks
